Artist Talk on the Exhibition »Hawaiian Hills« by Michail Pirgelis
The two major series of works, »Hawaiian Hills« and »Lines of Apollo,« made from original aircraft parts, are presented as a large-scale, site-specific installation spanning both floors of the Kunstraum München. With their red stripes on a white background and consistent format, the conceptually and serially conceived works are reminiscent of abstract Minimal Art paintings, while simultaneously questioning the conventions of Post-Minimalism and Conceptual Art. In the Kunstraum München’s exhibition history, Pirgelis also connects to the early exhibitions of American artists such as Richard Tuttle, Fred Sandback, Agnes Martin, and Robert Ryman held there in the 1970s. Artist Michael Pirgelis and curator Friederike Schuler will discuss these diverse approaches and aspects of the artwork, as well as the relationship between them and the evocative title »Hawaiian Hills«.
A publication and an edition will be published.
