UHLFELDER – an installation in the Artothek, on the site that was once home to the Uhlfelder family’s department store and Munich’s first escalator. Returned to as a work of art, against the backdrop of the dispossession of its Jewish owners in the 1930s, it functions as a mental motor and time machine while also representing the desire for technology, movement, and new beginnings.
