Lecture by Carlos Alonso PĂ©rez-Fajardo (co-curator of the exhibition “Barcelona moderna: From GaudĂ to Picasso”).
Around 1900, Catalan artists were closely connected to Europe’s leading artistic centres. Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Hermen Anglada Camarasa and the young Pablo Picasso travelled to Paris, became part of influential artistic circles, and engaged with the most innovative artistic movements of their time. This lecture explores the rich network of connections between Catalonia and Europe, highlighting how international encounters and mutual exchanges shaped Catalan Modernisme and enabled it to emerge as a distinctive expression of European modernity.
