ECOCIDE* is an annual festival exploring themes at the intersection of politics, ecology, and society. Confronting the destruction of natural and cultural environments, it integrates sustainability and performativity as core principles.
ECOCIDE, derived from the Greek oikos (house) and Latin caedere (to kill), refers to the large-scale destruction of ecosystems, threatening biodiversity and human life. Rooted in 1970s environmental movements, the term has gained renewed urgency amid climate and ecological crises. Advocacy efforts seek its recognition as an international crime.
The first edition of ECOCIDE engages with these themes through diverse artistic and research practices on ecology, animism, rituals, and dystopian realities, dialoguing on our shared responsibility in times of crisis.
*ECOCIDE stems from “Fragments of Sonic Extinction” (www.sonicextinction.com,) an ongoing project exploring the extinction of natural sounds relating to climate change and biodiversity decline.
