“Schlund” refers to the upper section of the digestive tract – the interface between the back of the oral cavity and the oesophagus. Physiologically, it is a place of transition; symbolically, it stands for processes of disappearance, threat and obscuration. At the same time, it opens up possibilities for re-articulation and transformation. Schlund as a place thus becomes a metaphor for the process in which that which is to be swallowed up finds a new form of existence and visibility – spat out or digested. Maria Moritz’s exhibition examines these dynamics: As viewers, we literally find ourselves between the teeth. The exhibition Schlund asks how individuals and communities deal with the unknown – new potentials, risks and power relations. It is accompanied by a text contribution by Lena Appel @la_detour. Maria Moritz (@maria__moritz, *1994 in Cologne) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, where she most recently studied at the Städelschule.
