“I’m absolutely exhausted. I danced eight hours last night, practicing the marching song. My God, my muscles ! I can’t do it, I’m telling you. What am I gonna do? They’re gone… with this soft life.” – Little Edie, Grey Gardens, 1975
The exhibition This Soft Life explores the ways in which precarity and excess coexist to form the material and spiritual reality of our lives. This relationship is especially examined within the context of a specific interior space: the home. The exhibition ponders the lengths we are willing to go in order to reach and maintain a sense of stability, and what may happen when it starts to slip through our fingers.
