The art in architecture project “PS (Horsepower)” by Alexandra Bircken was created as part of the redesign of the open spaces on Oskar-von-Miller-Ring, which will be implemented after the renovation of the Altstadtringtunnel. In a competitive planning workshop for the design of the open spaces, the design by kübertlandschaftsarchitektur was selected for implementation with the recommendation that the open spaces, with their extensive planting of trees, shrubs, and grasses, be complemented with a work of art. In a competition involving five artists, each working in collaboration with a structural engineer, the design by Alexandra Bircken together with Studio Violet and ArtEngineering GmbH was recommended for implementation by the Commission for Art in Construction and Public Space in 2021. The implementation of the artwork was approved by the Munich City Council in 2022 and funded by the Munich Cultural Construction Fund. The entire project, including the restoration of the surface roadways, the construction of the bicycle paths, and the redesign of the open spaces at the west portal, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
