To coincide with the special exhibition “Sweeter than Honey: A Panorama of Written Art”, three artists represented in the Written Art Collection will discuss the significance of writing, text, and language in their work. The discussion will be hosted by Elke Buhr, editor-in-chief of Monopol, and Madeleine Freund, co-curator of the exhibition. Oliver Kase, director of the Sammlung Moderne Kunst (Modern Art Collection) and curator of the exhibition, will open the event with a welcome address and introduction.
Mounira Al Solh’s (b. 1978, Beirut, Lebanon) textile works contain personal narratives, scraps of handwriting, and lyrical fragments addressing questions of memory, emancipation, and migration. Claudia Comte (b. 1983, Grancy, Switzerland) integrates writing as a structuring and playful element into her installations and paintings, with language becoming form, rhythm, and material. Adam Pendleton (b. 1984, Richmond, USA) uses text and language as conceptual tools, interweaving historical quotations, graffiti, and abstract painting to open up spaces for political and cultural contemplation.
The exhibition “Sweeter than Honey: A Panorama of Written Art” has been extended until 26 April 2026, giving visitors additional time to explore the full range of scriptural and text-based art on display. The selection of works presents writing as both artistic medium and material from the mid-twentieth century to the present day.
