We are thrilled to present the second part of EN HIVER, now featuring Ossian Fraser’s large-scale ephemeral sculpture The Subject of the Air within the group exhibition, alongside works by Ludwig Dressler and Sophie Schweighart.
In The Subject of the Air, Ossian Fraser’s black balloon steps out of its photographic triptych frame and enters the gallery as a physical intervention. Its large scale ominous presence transforms perception, suggesting a dimension beyond the image.
A monumental black balloon, reaching up to four meters in height, appears seemingly weightless, almost cosmic, as it occupies public space. First hovering above the roof of the hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich as part of VARIOUS OTHERS 2025, it emerges in nocturnal photographs as an entity that is both massive and fragile. The works evoke celestial bodies, black holes, and objects that resist earthly classification. Now the black balloon reaches its final destination in the gallery as a tangible encounter. Occupying the space in three dimensions, its stretches, defines, and negotiates the room’s boundaries. It’s sheer scale and materiality transform the gallery into an immersive spatial experience suspending perception between reality an the unknown.
