Galerie Christine Mayer is presenting new watercolors and drawings by André Butzer, as well as a selection of his graphic works from 2001 to 2026 in the showroom as part of Various Others —in collaboration with Handsiebdruckerei Berlin, Harpune Verlag Vienna, and Edition Linn Heidelberg.
In Butzer’s work, drawings and watercolors are more than just preliminary or subsequent notes for his paintings; they are of equal standing. Within the complexity of his expression, figures, colors, and forms emerge, and fundamental pictorial motifs and themes recur with exemplary clarity: “However, one must not deliberately make it crooked, but one must also not deliberately make it straight.”
Over the past 30 years, André Butzer (*1973) has produced an extraordinarily universal oeuvre with remarkable mastery. His works are fundamentally influenced by Expressionism and Pop Art, often offering solace in almost hopeless times and emphasizing the resilience of the spirit in the face of our human existence, which is threatened from all sides.
