The increase in social diversity is not without its tensions. Conflicts between new arrivals and those who have been here for a while seem to be increasing and fronts are hardening. But demarcation between us and “the others” does not have to lead to exclusion if belonging is developed as a counter-concept. The lecture explores the question of how we can shape coexistence, protect basic rights and promote self-effective engagement.
