The exhibition “Hawaiian Hills” shows the latest series of works by Michail Pirgelis as a site-specific spatial installation across our two floors. These are works made from original aeroplane parts with red and white stripes – abstract fragments of flags. Through the cut-out and the treatment of the surfaces, the artist intervenes to varying degrees in the design of the found material. With their red stripes on a white background and consistent format, the conceptual and serial works are reminiscent of abstract Minimal Art paintings. The title “Hawaiian Hills”, on the other hand, opens up a space of longing that seems to contradict the conceptual way of working.
The exhibition is curated by Friederike Schuler
