Around 1900, Barcelona emerged as one of Europe’s most dynamic cultural capitals. Amid rapid urban growth, and social tensions, Catalan Modernisme took shape—a movement that brought together architecture, painting, and design in a bold new artistic vision. The exhibition is the first in Germany to explore this remarkable cultural scene. Approximately 140 works—ranging from paintings and furniture to architectural models—highlight the diversity of the period between 1880 and 1914. Alongside Antoni Gaudà and the young Pablo Picasso, visitors can rediscover significant yet lesser-known artists of the era like Hermen Anglada Camarasa, Joaquim Mir or Santiago Rusiñol.
