We are delighted to be able to present a James Turrell space in Munich from the end of January 2026. For the duration of the exhibition, a contemplative space will be created in the Metropol Kunstraum that invites you to a sensual experience. The work “Joecar (White)” comes from the First Lights series, with which James Turrell developed his artistic formal language in 1966/67.
“Light is what we normally only use to illuminate other things. I am interested in light that itself has a materiality, that does not illuminate other things, but becomes an illumination itself,” says James Turrell, who here combines space, light and the viewer’s perception to create an immaterial light sculpture.
