Paula Scher (born 1948) is the most internationally influential and successful graphic designer of her generation. Her designs have influenced generations of designers and have become icons of graphic design. For the graphic designer, type, i.e. typography, is at the centre of her work. With “Paula Scher: Type is Image”, Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum is showing the first solo exhibition of her work in Germany. From her early and award-winning album covers of the 1970s, to her many years of work for the New York Public Theater and corporate identity commissions such as those for Microsoft Windows 8, to her most recent work on hand-painted maps, the entire spectrum of her work is presented in outstanding designs. With “Paula Scher: Type is Image”, Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum presents the extensive and diverse work of this graphic designer in a playful way in a newly developed spatial staging.
