With “where things stay too long”, The Tiger Room presents Sophia Mainka’s first solo exhibition at the gallery. Sophia Mainka (born in Munich in 1990) lives and works between Munich and Paris. Her artistic practice combines conceptual research with experimental material processes and operates at the intersection of sculpture, video and installation. In her works, she explores the permeable boundaries between human and non-human, between function and fiction. In doing so, she develops hybrid, post-anthropocentric narratives in which objects appear as independent actors and existing structures of meaning and power are renegotiated. Mainka studied Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and completed her studies in 2020 as a master’s student under Alexandra Bircken. Between 2022 and 2026, she taught sculpture there. Her works have been exhibited internationally, including at the Haus der Kunst, Munich; the Kunsthaus Dahlem, Berlin; the Museum Villa Rot, Burgrieden; the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris; and the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles, Paris. Her first institutional solo exhibition in Germany is due to open in autumn 2027 at the Museum Kebbel Villa in Schwandorf.
