In her first institutional solo exhibition in southern Germany, conceptual artist Mio Okido (*1986 Niigata, J), who has lived in Berlin since 2015, presents the results of a three-month residency in Munich, which the Artist-in-Residence-Munich programme will enable her to do from spring 2026. In her archival and urban research, she examines German and Munich’s Nazi history from the perspective of an artist from Japan – a former ally of the Nazi regime. Her focus is on the presentation of the Nazi regime to its citizens on an “everyday level”, says Okido, and on how this is represented in the urban space and in the media. Based on this research, the artist will use installations and multimedia in the Kunstraum München and “utilise the potential of the building to the full”, Okido continues.
The exhibition is curated by Alexander Steig. A publication will accompany the exhibition. Please also note the flag installation in the public space (Maximiliansforum).
