In her first institutional solo exhibition in southern Germany, conceptual artist Mio Okido (*1986 Niigata, J), who has been living in Berlin since 2015, presents the results of a three-month residency in Munich, which the Artist-in-Residence-Munich programme will make possible from spring 2026. In her archival and urban research, she examines German and Munich’s Nazi history from the perspective of an artist from Japan – a former ally of the Nazi regime. Her focus is on the presentation of the Nazi regime to its citizens on an “everyday level”, says Okido, and on how this is represented in urban spaces and in the media. Based on this research, the artist will use installations and multimedia at Kunstraum München and “utilise the building’s potential to the full”, Okido continues.
The exhibition at Kunstraum München is curated by Alexander Steig.
