Atlas House presents a single painting by the artist Alex Robbins, entitled “Landscape with Stream and Weir”, which reimagines Thomas Gainsborough’s pastoral Suffolk landscape through a process of manual reproduction and colour inversion. Working within the confines of a historic artwork – literally within the brushstrokes of another artist – the painting shifts attention away from the image and towards the physical dynamics of both perception and artistic value.
Arne De Boever of the California Institute of the Arts has written an essay for the exhibition.
Atlas House: artist-run initiative founded by Adam Thompson that offers exhibitions, temporary interventions, and artist residencies, as well as presenting projects outside of Atlas House. It is based in a former factory dating from 1874 in Ipswich, Suffolk.
