It is fair to say that, with the artist Conny Maier (*1987), the State Graphic Arts Collection presents an authentic yet unconventional voice that is rarely encountered in the international art world. Her paintings and drawings captivate the viewer with the distinctiveness of her artistic style.
At first glance, one gets the impression that her visual language evokes the spirit of early Expressionism, particularly that of Munich’s Blue Rider group, whilst her colour palette can take on a subtle, Old Master-like quality. This beautiful façade is shattered by aesthetic outbursts reminiscent of Art Brut, which always lend her motifs a wild and archaic quality. Her enigmatic scenes are defined by archetypes that explore the fundamental forms of human interaction. They reflect the themes of the great emotions—love, fear and anger—which have dominated the arts since classical antiquity.
