We are delighted to present Undertow, the second solo exhibition by Iran-born, New York-based artist Maryam Hoseini. The exhibition brings together a new series of paintings on wood panels, where bodies, plants, insects, and architectural fragments coalesce into floating, unstable compositions. Shifting between repetition and rupture, the works resist linear narration.
Shaped by the experience of displacement, Hoseini approaches the body as fluid and unfixed—leaking, multiplying, and dispersing into its surroundings. As they note, “Bodies are expected to align with normative paths, desires, and directions. The figures in my work move against those lines. They fold into and out of space.”
