For this year’s edition of Various Others, we are pleased to welcome Berlin-based artist Katharina Ruhm as our special guest. Ruhm will present her limited edition PlayTime – a series of mirrored glass vases, created in close collaboration with the gallery and exclusively for this occasion. The seductive objects draw on Jacques Tati’s eponymous film (1967) that anticipated a life lived through glass – much like the screens that now shape nearly every aspect of contemporary existence.
Having studied Design, Ruhm works at the intersection of everyday objects and sculpture. In her process-driven practice, she approaches her materials as fundamentally responsive. Rooted in material research and experimental set-ups, Ruhm develops open frameworks, where materials with amorphous chemical compositions unfold their own agency.
